Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine

Acupuncture originated in China over 2,000 years ago and helps the energy in our body (Qi) to flow properly. By using hair-thin needles, acupuncture stimulates specific acu-points on the body to unblock obstructions that cause pain and disharmony. Thousands of years of experience taught acupuncturists that when energy is blocked in the body, it can create illness.  Acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. Acupuncture is performed by licensed and board certified practitioners. Only single-use, sterilized needles are used during treatment. Acupuncture is safe and has very few side effects (if any).

fullsizerender-1In western medical and scientific terms, the exact mechanism is still unknown. Recent theories include: the ability of acupuncture to modulate neuroendocrine functions, endorphin mediated pain relief, and new ideas on the role of fascia in an organisms well-being.

Chinese herbal medicine is an important aspect of the Asian medical tradition. The history of Chinese herbal therapies dates back even before the development of acupuncture. Chinese herbs are prescribed in formulas that are specifically designed for your needs. The practitioner will make a diagnosis and prescribe an individualized formula that corresponds to the your pattern and diagnosis. As your condition changes, the herbal formula will also change to address the new diagnosis. Chinese herbs can be administered in pills, powders, and tea forms.

Chinese herbal medicine can be used alone or can help support your acupuncture treatments, deepening your healing. Chinese herbs are also thought to work better for certain conditions. A trained and licensed herbalist can help you decide if herbal therapy is right for you.

We also provide cupping when needed at Jersey Community Acupuncture. Cupping uses the suction of the cups mobilizes blood flow to promote the healing of a broad range of medical ailments, including pain and respiratory issues. Cupping therapy dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians were using cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C. European traditions also use cupping for respiratory issues.
