Cupping + Gua Sha
We provide cupping and gua sha for a wide range of ailments. Cupping uses suction to mobilize blood flow and promote the healing of a various ailments, including pain and respiratory issues. At Jersey Community Acupuncture, we offer cupping and gua sha as both an add-on to your acupuncture treatments or a stand alone full body treatment. It is a great adjunct therapy for pain and stress reduction.
We will work together to moderate the depth of cupping and gua sha. This adjacent image shows a deeper use. Some people have visible “sha” or redness after a treatment, while other people have little to none. The “sha” will lighten up in a few days to a week until it is no longer visible. The “sha” also shows the level of stagnation under the skin. With each session, you should have less stagnation, less visible redness and most importantly, less pain and more ease!
This therapy dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians were using cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C. Interestingly, european traditions also use cupping for respiratory issues.
