Fall Acupuncture Tune-Up: When Your Body Needs a Boost

As the seasons shift, our bodies become more susceptible to illness. When the weather changes from warm summer days to cool, damp autumn, we see the cold and flu season begin to start. Your body works hard to adapt between the cold days and lingering warm days, but sometimes it needs a little help.

Chinese medicine views the fall as the season of the lungs. Acupuncture treatments can help build immunity and help your body adapt to weather and light changes. Not only do we see more illness related to the lungs, but we also see and feel changes due to dwindling hours of light. It’s natural that we begin to turn inwards and feel like we are slowing down as winter approaches. Being human, for many of us, means we feel melancholy and some sadness in response to shorter days. While passing feelings of sadness are normal, we don’t want those feeling to take hold and drastically affect our daily lives.

As we transition to fall, and particularly when we change our clocks back, our bodies need support. A few acupuncture treatments do a fantastic job at helping your body regulate to the new landscape. What else can help?

Get out side and when you are out there,  dress appropriately. As my grandma says, keep a scarf around your neck when your outside as the seasons shift. You may be used to wearing shorts, but it’s time to put the pants back on. Go outside and breathe the cool, crisp air. Give your lungs a work-out and soak up as much sun as possible!

Want to try some daily acupressure to support you at home?

Try Lung 7: As seen on the right, Lung 7 is located on the inside of the wrist about 1.5 inches down from the juncture between your thumb and arm.

What is Lung 7 good for?

This acupuncture point is good for bolstering your body’s defensive energy, helping to keep your immune system strong. Symptomatically, Lung 7 is a frequently used point for cough, headache and stiff neck.

If you’re having a hard time knowing if it is the proper location, don’t worry. Just rub around the general area. If you find a sore area, stay there. Take a few minutes and rub. Try this at least once a twice a day and see what results you notice.
