Variscite – Authenticity and Truth 

Variscite is beautiful stone. When I look at it rough, I want to pick it up and hold it. It is formed through a sedimentary process on the Earth’s surface with the help of aluminum-rich rock and rainwater containing phosphoric acid. It fills in the cracks as it is deposited.

It is said to encourage authenticity and truthfulness. In the presence of variscite, we drop pretense and become a full expression of our true nature. It feels good to be true to oneself. While variscite is uplifting and invigorating, it also calms nervous energy. While increasing our perception and clear thought, it helps us express ourselves with clarity. From a physical standpoint, it helps with overacidification and relaxes cramping.

If you can get your hands on some variscite, hold it for awhile. This is a stone that can be used for long periods of time and has an affinity for the left hand.

Tourmaline – Dravite for Community Building 

Tourmaline is formed magmatically. It once was full with fire and heat. Bernardus Caesius said in the eigtheenth century that it is “the stone of wisdom, that is clear and resistant to all vagaries of fate”. In Arabic traditions, it is a stone of the Sun, strengthens the heart and protects against nightmares. There are many varieties of tourmaline with various abilities.

I speak today of dravite, which tends to be dark in color with shimmer and layers. It is best known for its ability to encourage empathy, community mindedness and social commitment. It helps one work through family issues. Dravite stimulates simple creativity and encourages skill in crafts. Physically, dravite helps restore the body from chronic tensions and skin conditions.

Essences of dravite work quickly. Folks who practice energy work can place the crystal with the tips pointing in the same direction of meridians or energy flow.

Tiger’s Eye – Spark of Trust 

Rough tiger’s eye is an amazing sight after seeing only ultra polished tiger’s eye beads. Seeing it rough shows it’s depth of layers, raw strength and poetry.

Tiger’s eye helps you keep a wide viewpoint during difficult times. It helps us distance ourselves from strong external influences and mitigates our undesirable moods and stress.

What draws me to tiger’s eye is it’s ability to instill courage during hard times and more, it helps us preserve a spark of trust in all of Creation. That is some deep stuff.

Tiger’s eye should not be worn for more than a week. It slows the energy in the body, which is helpful when our energy is overactive and needs some stillness for communion with that which is greater than us, but we don’t want our energy to get stuck either. Meditate with this stone for deep connections.

Malachite – Adventurous Goddess 

Malachite has a rich history of intrigue and risk. She is a stone of adventure and exploration. She invites risks and asks you to rely on luck. Malachite beckons an appreciation of beauty, friendship and sensuality. With her, a hunger for knowledge fills your being and shyness abates. We become more aware of our desires, needs and ideals, but the fruition of them is still our job. Malachite allows for intense and shifting moods. She allows for quick decisions that take little thought or rumination. Meaning becomes apparent and there is a willingness to confront things that we may otherwise avoid.

Malachite is your goddess friend who asks you to be bold, beautiful, creative and fully embody YOU. She quickly tells you to have faith before jumping off the ledge into a beautiful, deep pool of green that is inhabited by all you know and could become. Some fear her power, but she should be embraced for her freedom and wild edges.

Physically, malachite dissolves cramps, helps with menstrual concerns and facilitates labor. It helps with sexual issues that originate from bad experiences.

Lay malachite on your body where needed or take a very low dose of essence, as it has a pronounced effect.
