Back Pain & Unique Remedies: What’s Rabbit Fur Got To Do With It?

Lower back pain is a common complaint. You can have acute low back pain from lifting something; hopefully it’s only a muscle spasm. You can have chronic back pain from pelvic instability or herniations of discs or the narrowing of your spinal canal or … there are so many options.  Too many options.

Acupuncture does a great job relieving the pain associated with muscle spasms. When someone walks in with back pain, I hope for muscle spasms. New muscle spasms that haven’t taken up camp yet in your structural system. Muscle spasms that are easily subdued once they get a tiny bit of attention. But it’s not always the case, and then acupuncture can help too. It will probably just take longer and we will get to know each other a bit better due to some more regular visits. It always amazes me when I can stick a needle in someone’s hand and leg and help relieve the chronic back pain that has been plaguing them for years.

I’m also amazed at how we want to point the finger at one causative factor for how our health turned out the way it is. Pain patients come in with a diagnosis and some imaging that are most definitely helpful in telling a part of the story of why the person is in pain. But it is never the whole story. Our bodies are complex with multiple systems working in concert to help us take our next breath and feel our next heartbreak. There is no tweezing out of one singular causative factors. Us humans have a lot going on.

What does all this have to do with rabbit fur you ask? Well, it took lots of interesting personal choices to get us to where we are in our lives and our health and it will probably take at least a few interesting choices to get us where we want to be. So rabbit fur. Acupuncture will most likely help relieve your back pain. And rabbit fur might help too. Don’t worry to those of us that prefer live rabbits to cuddle with instead of wear on our bodies, you can just use wool or fleece.

A family member was visiting from France and had low back pain.

“Ou est ta fourrure de lapin?”

My french isn’t that great, but I was pretty sure she was asking where was my rabbit fur. These Europeans have no shame.

On further questioning, turns out she was looking for something warm to wrap her back with because it hurt.

About a year later, our family from Germany was visiting. My husbands cousin hurt her back. Guess what she asked for? Just guess.

Yep. Rabbit fur.
